A Tale of Three Foreigners

Sooo....this week. We had divisions this week (that´s when our District Leader and us switch comps for a day so he can see how we work and get to know our investigators. Both companions have to spend a day with him.) and usually in divisions ALL the appointments fall through and we end up doing contacts for 4-5 hours before we find a member to visit. BUT!! When my DL was with E´ Riera on Friday, they went to an investigator´s house to teach the first lesson, and the rest of his siblings wanted to join in and want to continue participating in our discussions!! A whole family has ¡¡cualquier ganas a escucharnos ahora!! (the desire to listen now). Sorry...I speak Spanish when I get excited haha

Also, when I (a gringo) was with my DL (who is from Mexico), we were doing contacts and met......a German! Of all the places for these three countries to meet, who´d have thought it would be in a tucked-away house in the vineyards of Chile! Haha. Those are the moments that qualify as a journal entry :)

So, there´s a good collection of new photos and videos this week :)

And a few more random things:

Elder Holland is going to be here to speak to us on Novemeber 13th, so I´ve been reading his last few Conference talks to prep. Here´s a few quotes I found: "Don´t assume you can fix everything, but fix what you can"; "Though we may feel like we are ´like a broken vessel´...we must remember, that vessel is in the hands of the divine potter"; "If thou canst do anything...If thou canst believe" (belief = faith = action, Am I doing everything possible to better my situation?)

Saturday night I was making a sign for English Class, (from Mom: who knew he taught English classes?!) and I asked my comp to make sure I spelled everything right. He asked how I knew so well when and where to use accent marks. So I gave my Latin comp a Spanish lesson :) Hahaha, that was seriously the funniest thing ever!!

Aaaand, can I get a copy of the no-bake cookies recepie? :D

I think that´s about all for this week.... :)

Lots of love,

I hate public transport - no leg room :(

It reminds me of someone (smart boy, now all the women in his life think it's them!)

Lunch!! aka heart attack on a plate: fries, sausage & sour cream, it looks like

Gigi to the Rescue

NOTE from Mom:  This week I had to tell Daylon that his wonderful great-grandma, Gigi, who he was close to, had passed away. I told him that if he noticed the work had been going better the last few days, it would be because she had arrived in the mission field to assist him. He replied:

As a matter of fact, every person we contacted this week is now investigating the Church! And now we all know why :´)

Last week was a good week for mail :) I got a package from Ciny, Sean, and family, another package from Tricia (she´ll be glad to know that finally came :) ), and letters from the following wonderful people: Cris/Fred family, Jenny (18 Sept and 18 July) and from Sis Larsen (who mentioned how the Elders didn´t like her cooking...haha)

Funny story about maaaaaiiiilllll tiiiiiiiiiime (sorry, Blues Clues moments...). Whenever my DL opens the package of letters, there´s usually about 5 or 6. At least 3 or 4 are always mine :) And whenever there´s a few packages, I can usually count on my awesome family to have sent something :) All the junk food you send really helps me spend my money on healthier food because I already have the good stuff from you hahaha

Also, a suggestion for all. Here, salads are really different and, at first, I didn´t like it, but now I plan on only eating Chilean salads after the mission. It´s pretty simple: Lettuce, oil, salt, and lemon juice. I have no idea what the proportions are, but you can have fun experimenting :)

WHAT?? Dad missed one of Trevin´s games??? Yeah. Definitely praying hard for him now!! (from Mom: he was sick. Reeaaally sick... he doesn't miss those games without a major reason!)

As missionaries we probably won´t get the Conference Ensign until the end of Novermber/December :P And seeing as we don´t really spend time with the members, I haven´t heard any phrases going around. But that was definitely one of my favorites :) (from Mom: I told Daylon the quote from conference that is really getting popular here is "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith."

(from Mom: this is regarding the new temple video) I´ve heard there´s a new video, but as of September it wasn´t in Santiago. I heard they´re sending it with the new Temple Presidents, but I don´t know how credible that info is...I seriously miss going to the Temple!!

Lots of love,

Really Missing Those Bean Burritos!

I figured about this time dad would be talking about me coming home as if it were this January. But we´re only coming up on the halfway point, o sea, we´re ALREADY coming up on the halfway point!

Trevin´s ability to talk to people and get himself invited to prostigeous events is something that will definitely help him later in life!

So, I know I said no one is getting presents from me this year, but there might be a family present coming, just depends on the timing of everything :)

Mom - I definitely could smell your Orange whateveryoucallthem Cinnamon Rolls (orange Danish rolls) Sunday morning when I woke up, and the taste was tempting me all through the first session!

Dad - After the Priesthood Session, even though it was 11pm, I was ready to go get my bean and cheese burrito, enchilada style, with a side of rice and beans, red sauce. Oh! Another thing, there is an Empanada shop here with 48 different types, and when I walk in, the lady is already writing my order because I get the same thing every time. When she first did that I was thinking, "Haha, now I´m just like grandpa!" (from Mom: This is the second week in a row he's mentioned those burritos. He must really miss it!)

Conference

Surprise! Today Pres. announced that he doesn´t actually have the authority to change our Pday :P So we get a super short one every 6 weeks :P From now on, all the missionaries are going to be in the changes meeting, which is fun :)

Mail I got last week: a letter sent from Mom and Allie stamped 8/31

About the photos....1) We were in the house of our Branch President, 2) The festival we were at was a celebration of the 18 de Septiembre (the Chilean 4th of July), 3) It was an activity that all the branches went to and we had permission to go all day. It went from about 10am to 5pm, and 4) I watched Conference in the Stake Center, because that`s the tradition here (plus very few people can afford the package that includes the BYU Channel)

There`s more pictures :)
"Despediada_C." is the last photo of Hna C. She got transfered to the city for her health.

"Twins" is us Elders with two members who look somewhat similar

"The_New_Elders" is the Sisters with our "twins"
(P.S. from Mom - it looks like a pretty nice building they meet in)

Conference always makes me trunky and the Priesthood session always makes me want a "bean and cheese burrito, enchilada style, with a side of rice and beans. Red sauce." I miss Mexican food!!!!!

MOM!!! If you could find my thumbdrives and send me the biggest one there is AFTER making a backup of it on my 1TB Hard Drive in a file named "SENT TO DAYLON" that would help a lot :) I tend to work with the branch secretary a lot and when I have transfers I would like to take these documents with me just in case. And I have a lot of photos and music and mormon messages and 4GB just isn´t cutting it :P

The rest of this has to be short, sorry.

We were waiting in line the other day at a government building that recently ended their strike. They were on strike for 19 days because of bad software......oh how I had the stupid people who don`t test their software first!!

Also, we were just walking down the street and a store was playing a Coldplay song. It was timed perfectly to play the part "missionaries in a foreign field" right as we walked in front of the store hahahahaha

After Pres. Monson´s talk in Conference, PLEASE let Bro. Wanlass know how greatful I am to have had an awesome Home Teaching companion. Thank you!!

That is all,
- Elder Daylon Crider
